February Secretary Report

     Our February meeting was held on Sunday, February 8^th, 2009.  It was held at the NDSU Equine Center.  It was held in conjunction with our February workout.  The meeting was called to order by Sam.  Pledges were said with Felicity saying the American pledge and Bryce saying the 4-H pledge. 

     We had fourteen members and thirteen adults present.  The members present were:

Kayli, Bryce, Olivia, Lucas, Sam, Sarah, Tina, Karley, Morgan, Casey, Megan, Thomas,

Bree, Felicity and Kendra.

Old Business:

     The members that were part of the speech/expo contest shared their experiences.  Karley was named “Grand Champion” of the Expo contest. The title of her Expo was “Catch Me If You Can.”  Her project was about how to catch your horse.  Other Triple C members that participated were the Libels’, the Metzger’s, the Schaefer’s, Bryce and Morgan.  Congratulations to them all for a job well done.

New Business:

     Leslie shared information that was discussed at the Horse Committee meetings.  To show at the Minot State Fair you need to qualify in each event with a blue ribbon performance at a county qualifying show.  For this summer’s State fair you can use last years Achievement Days to qualify.  You should also be able to qualify at the fair show; however, Leslie will follow up with Maxine on how this will be done since the show is held after Minot State Fair registration is due.

      Events that will be added to this years Red River Valley 4-H Horse show are  Western Riding, Hunter under Saddle (Jumping), and Goad tying.  It was decided that in order to add these events the Show will be extended to a two day show.  The dates of the show will be Wed. Jul 15^th and Thurs. July 16^th with a 9:00am start time.  It will be proposed that the first day will be the pleasure events with the second day to be the gaming events. The show needs to be completed by 3pm on Thursday.  The stall decorating contest will be held the same week running from Monday to Thursday.

      It was also decided that since the arena is open on Tuesday, July 14^th, we will hold a Clinic/Workout day for members to practice for the fair show.  We will decide at a later date what events we will work on. 

Upcoming Events:   Next meeting Monday, March 2^nd

                                 Horse Clinic March 7^th and 8^th at NDSU.

Demos:  Felicity did a demonstration on Hoof Cleaning with her horse Tina.
